Greetings from London! This morning, very early mind you.....as a cunning plan to beat the crowds, I dolled myself up and put a flower on my head and went to the 100th RHS Chelsea Flower Show:
I may have caught a fleeting glimpse of blue sky out of the hotel window, yet took precautions against the English weather by wearing thick, wooly tights, boots and four layers under my dress.....and a jacket. It was still cold. Later, there was rain and hail. There were lots of incredibly beautiful flowers though:
And topiary:
And.....champagne:
Even though it was just after 8am in the morning, it was still like this is the show gardens:
Needless to say, I was riddled with gardening angst when I momentarily thought about my own garden back home in Hobart. I took comfort in the anecdote that the bus driver had told me about how his parents had been invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace for their golden wedding anniversary. As keen gardeners they thought that it was all beautiful and very neat.....except for the further reaches, which they accidentally stumbled upon.....which may have been just a little bit messy.

I was there today as well!! But I was in the afternoon session, I think that is when they let the rif raf in. I adored that tulip you took a picture of. It was one of my favourites. I must have taken 20 pictures of that flower! Was surprised at the lack of peonies except just at one stand. But it was all so lovely wasn't it?!
ReplyDeleteWasn't it beautiful....but cold! We'd upped stumps for some shopping by the afternoon...everything was just so beautiful! Rx
DeleteLove that anecdote. Suspect that the Palace Gardeners were slacking off further away from where HM walks the Corgies and maybe they thought they could get away with it. Love your ensemble... can't believe how cold it still is in London. Still, cold weather is better for walking. Flower pics are lovely, and if you get garden angst, you would feel infinitely better if you were viewing my back garden. Currently looks like the Somme circa 1917 - a total mud pit. I can't imagine it ever looking any different at this stage... enjoy all the gardensxx
ReplyDeleteFinally discovered that the secret of beautiful gardens is time....so am consoling myself that once I get home and plant an insane amount of box and more roses etc then one day, it will be gorgeous too...as will yours! Rx
DeleteLove your blog Romy and now that I have found you will enjoy catching up with past posts. Was really great to meet you yesterday and glad you enjoyed Chelsea despite the cold conditions! Lovely pics ! S x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sarah. I adored Chelsea, it was even better than my wildest imaginings (and they were pretty outrageous). It was lovely to meet you and Sophie too.Rx
DeleteI still haven't gotten to Chelsea yet, it should have been this year but I changed my plans so as to meet FF tomorrow! The tour you are all on looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou should try for Chelsea next year Tabitha as it really is fab! Lovely to meet you in rainy old London. Rx
DeleteVery envious of your Chelsea visit! It sounds as cold as here though! x
ReplyDeleteI loved Chelsea! Living in Hobart I'm used to cold....however the thing is that it's very nearly meant to be summer! Rx
DeleteHi there Romy, just wanted to drop by and say how nice it was to meet you the other day. I love your Chelsea Flower photos, and have been looking at your photos of Uzes and Nimes - jealous! And did not recognise that blue thing in your French photos - can the sky really be that colour? Surely it should be grey? Bxx
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you, too! Must say that I was blinded by the blue sky when I stepped off the plane in Montpellier....yet half a hour later it was raining...what's going on with European weather? What about summer?! Rx
